GRIDWISE PEOPLE AT PNNL

PNNL provides a tremendous wealth of scientists and engineers in areas related to GridWise: including building systems, economics, information technology, power systems, technology deployment and sustainability. The list of key GridWise people at PNNL below presents just the tip of the iceberg.

Beyond PNNL, we also benefit from invaluable GridWise motivators in the DOE GridWise Program and from the GridWise Alliance.

Management Team for GridWise Activities at PNNL

Jeff Dagle is an electrical engineer with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He has extensive experience with advanced power system analysis and simulation software representing state-of-the-art utility planning and analysis software packages. He provides technical support regarding infrastructure information assurance technologies, systems and approaches.

Carl Imhoff is an engineer with PNNL's energy operations and products team. He has extensive experience in various technical and management roles. While with the Lab, he has worked in the following areas conducting research and creating products for delivery to the energy and utility industries: systems engineering, management concepts, condition-based monitoring and intelligent diagnostic technologies.

Rob Pratt leads PNNL's internal investment in the Energy Systems Transformation Initiative, focusing on simulation and analysis of the combined engineering and economic networks comprising the current and future energy grid. Rob has a detailed understanding of utility planning processes gained from an assignment with the Northwest Power Planning Council and has specialized expertise in the application of metered load and end-use data to the analysis of energy systems planning and performance.

Key People involved with GridWise at PNNL

Dave Chassin has 15 years of experience in the research and development of computer applications software for the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry. His focus has been on non-linear system dynamics and high-performance simulation (including energy and HVAC systems, air-flow in buildings, control systems and logistics systems); diagnostic systems (including decision trees, expert systems, statistical systems, genetic algorithms, neural networks, etc.); energy system modeling; and image processing and analysis (including cellular automata and pipeline data processing). Dave is currently leading the complex adaptive systems research under the Energy Systems Transformation Initiative.

Don Hammerstrom Coming Soon

Henry Huang Coming Soon

Ross Guttromson is a senior research engineer with the Energy Science & Technology Division at PNNL. His previous experience includes R.W. Beck Engineering and Consulting, Seattle, Wash., and the Generator Engineering Design Group, Siemens-Westinghouse Power Corporation, Orlando Fla.

Mike Kinter-Meye Coming Soon

Marc Ledbetter's innovative leadership ability and organizational skills have been instrumental to several energy management and cost savings programs related to market transformation, technology procurement, efficient lighting and appliances, and distributed utility resources. This leadership ability, along with exceptional visionary skills, made Marc the primary candidate for managing the DOE's Emerging Technologies Program.

Ning Lu Coming Soon

Yuri Makarov Coming Soon

Mia Paget is a senior research engineer with the Energy Science & Technology Division at PNNL. Before joining PNNL, Mia worked overseas for over 10 years as a management consultant in international industry sectors, bridging the gaps between organizations, communications and information technology projects. She is currently contributing to research and development of new solutions for the current and future energy grid combining engineering, economics and information technology networks.

Dr. Joe Roop joined PNNL in 1981 after working at the University of California in Berkeley, the Economic Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Evans Economics, Inc., in Washington, D.C. While with PNNL, he served for 17 months as a staff member in the Energy Department's Policy Office and was seconded to the International Energy Agency for nearly two years. Dr. Roop served as the lead economist for PNNL's Energy Systems Transformation Initiative.

Marty Stoddard Coming Soon

Steve Widergren has over 25 years of project and product management and software development experience implementing software and computer systems for electric utility control and operations. He has a broad knowledge of the energy management system (EMS) industry, utility operations and real-time system hardware and software. Steve has a solid foundation in object-oriented analysis and design and quality software development processes.

Key People in Related GridWise Efforts

Steve Hauser is currently Director, Power Grid Solutions, at SAIC. Prior to joining SAIC, Hauser was a vice president at UAI, a software company providing workflow automation solutions to the utility industry. Steve was previously power systems program director at PNNL and is a founding leader to the GridWise vision. Steve is currently executive director for the GridWise Alliance, a newly formed, not-for-profit consortium of companies whose shared vision is to transform the U.S. electric system through innovative new technologies.
